Recovery Tails

After another emotional year supporting cats with a host of health conditions and looking ahead to 2025 we now need your help with the Christmas fundraising campaign we are calling ‘Recovery Tails’.

Imagine having to live on the streets in this cold weather. No food, no clean water, no shelter or warm bed to curl up in. On top of that you feel so poorly you just want to give up.

Sadly this was the reality for so many of the cats and kittens who arrived in the Shelter this year, suffering from a huge range of treatable and, sadly, some untreatable conditions. We need your help to continue providing warm bed medical aid and care for those cats who arrive at the Shelter in a dire state over the next few cold months

Helping Sheffield’s poorliest homeless cats and kittens to regain their health cost the Shelter in excess of £45k this year. So this Christmas, please help to raise £10,000 to keep this crucial work going. Your support will help to pay for vet treatment, special foods and medication for all the cats and kittens who arrive in the Shelter sick and in need of a warm bed this winter.

Thank you for your donation

Funds Raised So Far:

£7,588

Throughout the campaign, we will share updates of the poorly cats helped in the Shelter this year

Recovery Tails – Day 12 – Marmalade, Jam and Jelly

Recovery Tails – Day 12 – Marmalade, Jam and Jelly

Marmalade, a mum cat with two kittens, was brought in as an emergency when they were found on the street in bad shape. Jam and Jelly, the four week old kittens, were the size and weight of two week old kittens. Mum Marmalade was skin and bones, full of flu and we...

Recovery Tails – Day 11 – Rocky

Recovery Tails – Day 11 – Rocky

Earlier this year we were approached by a member of the public who had bought a cat online and was struggling to manage the cat’s health issues. We offered our advice and support and referred the cat to our vets for assessment and neutering. On exam, it was apparent...

Recovery Tails – Day 10 – Abby

Recovery Tails – Day 10 – Abby

Abby has a wonderfully unusual story. In April this year, Abby paid our shelter a visit, heavily pregnant! She walked right up to our door asking to come in. So we went out with a chip scanner to see if she was microchipped, but before we could do that, she ran...

Recovery Tails – Day 9 – Bonno

Recovery Tails – Day 9 – Bonno

Bonno’s story is one of a condition that can be managed, but it sometimes scares people when their pet is diagnosed with it. Lovely Bonno was put on our waiting list for rehoming, and when we admitted him, we were told he had been diagnosed with megacolon. Simply put...

Recovery Tails – Day 8 – Trevor

Recovery Tails – Day 8 – Trevor

Trevor came to the Shelter in a very bad state. He was full of flu, congested and feeling rubbish. He had been noted as living as a stray for a few weeks and finally, a concerned member of the public brought him to us. We rushed Trevor straight to our vets for...

Recovery Tails – Day 7 – Lottie

Recovery Tails – Day 7 – Lottie

Lottie came to us from the local Sheffield dog kennels, but before that she had lived in a home with her owner. When her owner passed away, the council were involved and she was placed in kennels. This place was not suitable for cats, the staff got in touch to ask if...

Recovery Tails – Day 6 – Dennis

Recovery Tails – Day 6 – Dennis

Dennis was brought to our vets after he was found with a bulging eye - likely injured in either a fight or car accident. Unfortunately, his eye needed to come out, but with no chip or owner to be found, the vets contacted our shelter. We shared him on lost and found,...

Recovery Tails – Day 5 – Raf

Recovery Tails – Day 5 – Raf

Lovely Raf came to us just after a very nasty tail pull injury. He had needed his tail amputating and was now suffering with some nerve damage. The lady that found him and brought him to us, was very generous and paid for his amputation (she would have kept him if it...

Recovery Tails – Day 4 – Bagheera

Recovery Tails – Day 4 – Bagheera

Bagheera’s story is a rare one, thankfully, but one worth telling. His owner got in touch with us after needing our help to rehome him due to a condition that she and the vets hadn’t beenable to get under control. His owner was desperate and although she loved...

Recovery Tails – Day 3 – Russell & Howard

Recovery Tails – Day 3 – Russell & Howard

Russell and Howard’s case is one that is happening all too often. These poor chaps were abandoned in a woodland together and were terrified. These British Shorthairs were clearly not used to the outdoors and were covered in faeces and fleas. If it’s not bad enough...
