Remembering…
Since 1897 we have rehomed tens of thousands of cats, giving them long and happy lives they couldn’t have had any other way. By sponsoring our cat rooms you’ll be contributing to the care of cats now and in the future – both in the Shelter and in long-term foster care with conditions that need a lifetime of care.
Spitfire
Spitfire came to us from a very rough home environment. Sharing a house with 23 unneutered cats, Spitfire had multiple litters in very difficult circumstances. Despite how hard it was she did everything she could to care for her kittens – and even some that weren’t hers- for a long time.
When she was finally rescued along with her kittens, she needed lots of help from the vets. The first day she arrived, it was apparent something wasn’t right. We took her to the vets to find that she had a pyometra (infection of the womb). She had to be operated on immediately. On top of this one of her ears had become infected and had to be removed, whilst her teeth and gums needed a lot of treatment. It also came to light that she had a heart murmur which needed close monitoring by the vets.
We provided her with all the treatments she needed to bring her back to health, and she soon began to recover. Once all her babies had found forever homes it was her turn, and before long her perfect owner came to the Shelter and they fell in love straight away.
With her new owner Spitfire enjoyed many happy years that few would have thought she could ever have again. She was free to roam the garden, play with her new family, and do what cats do best – find the comfiest places in the house and claim them as her own!
Sadly, her damaged ear began to deteriorate in early 2020, and after a long battle we had to say goodbye to her. During her final weeks we spared no expense providing her with every treatment, test, medication, and comfort that the vets recommended – all thanks to her kind sponsors and wonderful foster family.
Now you can sponsor to help the hundreds of cats just like Spitfire that we home every year to give each of them the second chance they deserve.
