Why Adopt An Older Cat?
March 24, 2025

If you’re thinking about adding a new feline friend to your home, consider adopting an older cat. There are many advantages to choosing a senior cat.

Despite their charm and grace, older cats are often overlooked by those looking to rescue a cat. However, they can be just as cute, quirky, and loving as younger cats, and they still have many wonderful years ahead of them. Here are a few reasons why adopting a senior cat might be a great choice for you and your family.

🐾You’ll be giving them a second chance

Older cats come to us for various reasons, sadly it’s mostly due to their beloved owners having passed away. Regardless of the reason, being in our care can never replace the warmth and love of a true home. When you choose to adopt an older cat, you’re offering them a precious second chance at joy during a time when they need it most. Your kindness can make a world of difference in their lives.

🐾Their lifespan may surprise you!

Adopting an older moggy doesn’t mean your time together will be short. Thanks to advancements in veterinary care and a growing understanding of feline welfare, our beloved cats are living longer, healthier lives! Many cats these days live well into their late teens and even early 20s.

🐾They have an established personality

When you bring home a kitten, it can be difficult to predict what kind of personality they will develop as they grow. Kittens may turn out to be talkative, enjoy napping, be aloof, or love to cuddle. Their personalities are likely to change significantly during their first few years. Adopting an older cat gives you a much clearer understanding of their personality and preferences, including what they like and dislike.

When you adopt an older cat from us, we can provide detailed information about their personality, whether it’s from their previous owner or the time they’ve spent in our care. This way, you’ll have a better understanding of what to expect from your new feline companion.

🐾They have an established personality

Kittens have a lot of energy and they can be a lot of work as a result. They can get into all sorts of trouble as they explore your home at top speed. It’s not unusual to discover they’ve scaled the curtains! They need lots of interactive playtime to help tire them out. An older cat is likely to be a lot calmer, and happier to spend more time snoozing and cuddling up with you.

🐾You’ll be helping us care for more cats

It’s disheartening to see that older cats in our care often wait three times longer to find their forever homes compared to younger ones. However, we want you to know that we would never make the difficult choice to put a healthy cat to sleep. By welcoming a mature feline into your family, you’re not only gaining a loving companion and offering a second chance to a deserving cat, but you’re also helping to create space for us to rescue even more cats in need.
