Meet Our Patrons At Our Street Party!
September 08, 2023

On Saturday 9th September, from 130 to 430, we’re holding a street party to celebrate the 126th anniversary of The Sheffield Cats Shelter. It’s being held outside our shelter at 1 Travis Place, Broomhall, Sheffield S10 2DB.

There will be stalls, refreshments, live music and fun for all the family – and you’ll also be able to meet our very first patrons: Frankie Seaman and Joann Fletcher.

Frankie Seaman found fame as one of the professional skaters on ‘Dancing On Ice’, and in 2018 she took to the ice with a very familiar partner: her husband, former England goalkeeper David Seaman. Frankie is originally from Sheffield, and is a lifelong cat lover who has adopted and fostered cats and kittens, as well as training people in how to hand rear kittens.

Frankie says: “I couldn’t be more honoured to be a patron for The Sheffield Cats Shelter. Being from Sheffield, and being a cat lover, from the minute I walked inside the shelter I felt like I’d found my people, my tribe.”

Professor Joann Fletcher, or Jo as she likes to be known, is originally from Barnsley and is Professor of Archaeology at York University. She is renowned as one of the world’s leading Egyptologists and is the lead ambassador for the Egypt Exploration Society and author of many books on this subject. Jo also wrote and presented the award-winning BBC television series ‘Immortal Egypt’.

Jo says: “I am thrilled to be a patron for The Sheffield Cats Shelter. Having researched the importance of cats in ancient Egypt for many years, I am currently owned by two rescue cats who remind me every day that the Egyptians once worshipped their ancestors as gods!”

Frankie will be talking at 145 tomorrow, and Jo will be talking at 330 tomorrow – we’d love to see you there!
