Trevor came to the Shelter in a very bad state. He was full of flu, congested and feeling rubbish. He had been noted as living as a stray for a few weeks and finally, a concerned member of the public brought him to us.

We rushed Trevor straight to our vets for assessment. He had a very bad case of flu that had gone untreated for a long while. He also had some cracked canine teeth which would have been very uncomfortable, and he was covered in fleas, dirt and scabby skin. After a blood test, we also found out that Trevor was extremely anaemic and was positive for Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). This was having a serious impact on his immune system and ability to fight off the initial virus which caused the flu. To add to Trevor’s troubles he was riddled with worms and so underweight you could see his spine. Poor Trevor was very much under the weather and didn’t really want fuss or cuddles, he just wanted a warm bed and some food, which we were more than happy to provide. We just wish it was enough. We tried antibiotics – for the secondary infection caused by the flu – pain relief, anti-inflammatories, and more antibiotics to cover more infection. None of it was helping.

Sadly, after a week with us, Trevor had gone downhill despite having all the care we could give him and we had to say goodbye to him on Tuesday 6th November. Although it was the kindest option to take away his suffering, it broke our hearts. Trevor deserved a better life than the one he lived. If he had more care from the start of his life, it would have ended much differently and much later. Trevor is finally out of pain and suffering, and we like to think that he is chasing leaves over the rainbow bridge now.

If it wasn’t for the generous support we receive from the general public, Trevor wouldn’t have been given a second chance and may have died in pain on the streets, alone. We couldn’t bear that, and we know you couldn’t either. So please donate to help give cats like Trevor a second chance.
